Joss Whedon was the genius behind this movie, both directing and writing it, and it's safe too say this guy is pretty talented. But he didn't do it alone, he also had a dynamite cast. Before The Avengers could have even become a movie, it basically need four prequels. Every super hero got their own movie, to tell their own story, before it all came together. Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo is The Incredible Hulk, CHRIS EVANS AS CAPTAIN AMERICA, I mean come on, whoever was the genius to get that guy seriously needs a billion dollar bonus. And then there is Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Oh Samuel L. Jackson is also in the movie. Every actor played their characters in their own individual movies, except Ruffalo. In The Incredible Hulk, Bruce Banner is played by Edward Norton. The change in characters has stirred many debates about who would have been better, since I have no idea who Edward Norton is, I think it's safe to say Mark does a superb job and he gets my vote.
The Avengers was produced by Marvel Studios, and released through Disney, which actually made the loss of money from John Carter not seem so bad. The movie is based on the idea that Nick Fury calls upon these super heroes to defeat Loki, the brother of Thor. Besides the fact that it is literally over two hours of constant battle, it also features comedic relief, and a plot. For most movies nowadays you can only pick two out of the three.
Unfortunately it's hard for me to convince people that my opinion on this movie is valid, due to the lack of knowledge I have when it comes to the plot, and basically almost ever aspect of the movie (Other than the fact that Captain America is amazing, everyone agrees with me on that).
AMERICA!!...
did you just yell America? (The Other Guys)
Like Nick Fury, I also called in the help of a few people to make sure this blog would be the bomb. Luckily I didn't have to look very far, both my brothers are big fans of Marvel.
My youngest brother told me the best parts of this movie were the fact that it made him laugh, he was entertained the whole time, and he wants to be Captain America more than anything (But really, who doesn't?).
The only con he could think of was the fact that in twenty years from now, this movie is going to be seen as very cheesy.
My oldest brother gave me a little more input stating that it was action packed, the characters were like-able, and it features a good villain. His cons were the fact that since there were so many characters, it would literally be impossible to have any back stories because that would have taken up the whole movie.
On all counts I agree with both of them, right when the movie starts, it is a constant battle to try to save the world. At first the characters don't get a long, which leads to the comedic relief mainly from Robert Downey Jr. Another good point is that Loki played by Tom Hiddleston was an excellent villain. The kind you love to hate, where you can't really decide if you want him dead or not, but you really do, but not until the end, but you are a little bit sad when he is defeated, or maybe that's just me.
Unfortunately every masterpiece has it's mistakes. I would have never been able to think of any of them, but that's what brothers are for. In twenty years, if I decide to watch this movie with my kids, are they going to think it is just a cheese ball mess? How do I explain to them this was one of the top selling movies of all time, they might think I'm nuts (If for some reason they don't already). In my personal opinion I don't think that it is going to go down hill like that. I believe the true core value of the movie will be able to stand the test of time. I think the classic tale of good conquering evil will never become cheesy, of course it depends on the movie, script, and acting, but the idea has been around for hundreds of years and it isn't going anywhere.
On the other hand, coming from someone who had no idea what or who anyone was at the beginning, it would have been nice for some sort of back story. But I guess Marvel just expected everyone to have seen the previous movies, SORRY I'M NOT SORRY ABOUT IT. That was my Brian Wilson (Giants not Beach Boy) moment.
On the website "Rotten Tomatoes", the average rating was a 4.7/5 stars (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/marvels_the_avengers/). IMDB gave it an 8.7/10 stars (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/), those are just two examples of how great this film is.
The film has already grossed over $1 billion, which is only one of eleven films to do so, while only being in theaters in America for two weeks. It also holds the record for making the most money in an opening weekend, and made over $103 million it's second weekend, which is also a record.
If it wasn't made clear already, The Avengers doesn't really has a specific target audience. Unless they were aiming to please everybody, in that case a job well done Marvel. Because I hate, more than most things, sitting in a movie theater for hours watching people blow each other up. I don't know how they did it, some form of divine intervention I guess, but if I have said it once, I will say it a million more times; The Avengers is bomb, it set the bar for action packed movies to come, and I know for a fact none of them will ever compare.
So, if you don't trust me, or whatever, here is another clip to convince you otherwise.
